The wildly popular trend that took over the fashion world in 2023 was quiet luxury, which was soon sparking a conversation with the interiors world too! In 2024 it is as prominent and as talked about as ever. So what exactly is QUIET LUXURY? If you’ve not heard of it before it is minimal design, concentrating on quality lasting pieces, paired back design with an element of sophistication. Although now very much on trend, this is a style that I’ve always enjoyed. I like the simplicity of it, as well as the emphasis on quality products that can become long term additions to a home.
Every room in the house can embrace this style. To feel sumptuous and peaceful, like a boutique hotel.
The reason I’m a fan, is not only because of its simple, calming and luxurious aesthetic, but also because it is an achievable look. The paired back nature of buying something that is of quality and not showy, such as antique furniture or a bold piece of sculpture, can bring drama to a room. And yet, may cost much less than branded items or well known household names.
Although the true essence of quiet luxury, often termed ‘old money aesthetic’, ‘silent luxury’ or ‘stealth wealth’, is discreet yet expensive. The style can be achieved by using bold statement pieces in a simple, free from clutter environment, meaning we can all be feeling that little hint of luxury.
TIMELESS CRAFTSMANSHIP
Investing in exquisite pieces that will stand the test of time, beautifully designed with an understated classic elegance. This is the embodiment of quiet luxury. With consumers favouring more sustainable options with an increased consciousness of the materials used and a mindfulness on products being built to last. It has become much more inviting to choose artisan products and antique furniture.
KEEP THE CALM
Buy using soft, seamlessly blended tones that relax your body and mind is essential to the feel of tranquility. It shouldn’t shout, it should cocoon you like a billowing duvet or a soft cashmere blanket. By choosing calming but fresh tones, setting a minimalist essence, that will let the bolder pieces in the room speak.
SIMPLE STYLING
To fully reflect the key ethos to this style, it is to keep it simple. Not a fully minimalist approach but clutter free and simplistic to allow the curated investment pieces in the room to breathe. By embracing natural materials to echo the sustainable and organic nature of this eloquent style, the use of glass, ceramic and wood can bring a calming paired back appeal.
This is a style set to last. Just like the sustainable, beautifully crafted pieces that would sit peacefully in it. This is the opposite of ostentatious, the depiction of shouting without saying a word, the tranquility of quiet.
